Canada boasts a rich legacy of country stars, from Shania Twain and Hank Snow to Anne Murray, and the iconic k.d. lang. In “Don’t Fence Me In: Queer Country,” our documentary shines a spotlight on LGBTQ+ musicians who are fearlessly redefining Canadian country music, carving out space in an industry that has often been slow to embrace change. These artists share their deeply personal stories, navigating the complexities of identity, tradition, and artistry while challenging stereotypes and breaking new ground. Their journeys are marked by resilience, creativity, and undeniable talent. The film not only celebrates trailblazers like k.d. lang but also gives voice to the new generation, showcasing the richness of their music and the vibrant community they’re building.
